Tano Odumase citizens to get drinking water

For many years, the community members of Tano Odumase in the Sekyere- South District in Ashanti region of Ghana have experienced difficulties to obtain good drinking water. The water delivery system to serve the community, got broken down some 5 years ago. Some initiatives have been taken to rectify the water system but these have been

inadequate for the growing population. Many water borne diseases have occurred in the Community, women and children especially have been burdened excessively.

Two members of the Community who live in Belgium, Pastor Theo Opoku Kumah and Yaw Berko approached the local NGO; Community Livelihood Support Organisation (COLISO) which has good working relationship with the Ghanaian Community in Belgium led by the umbrella organisation Ghana Council Belgium . COLISO included the rehabilitation request in their project proposal: “Provision of Potable Water and Sanitation facilities in 4 rural Communities in Ghana”, through the Belgian NGO Fund for Development Cooperation (FOS) for assistance.

The project grant has been approved and financial support is to be provided by the Flemish Community Government, the City of Antwerp and the TMVW- water company.

It was a great relieve and joy for the Community members of Tano Odumase when the rehabilitation work was launched on Sunday 10 August 2014 with a durbar of chiefs and community members at the durbur grounds. In attendance were Pastor Opoku Kumah, some delegates from the Ghana Council, Mr Kwaku Acheampong representing FOS, COLISO staff, the Constituency MP and other dignitaries.

Completion of the rehabilitation work is expected by the end of October 2014 when water will start flowing from the public taps installed at strategic locations within the community.
